I thought that Priceless was actually a really sweet film. Basically, anything that Audrey Tautou does is OK by me, she's so beautiful and charming. However, this little French film, titled Hors de Prix directed by Pierre Salvadori and adpated from Breakfast at Tiffany's is quite cute. Basically, the storyline is that a shy waiter at a luxury hotel pretends to be a millionaire and thus snags the attention of Irene (Audrey) who is an unabashed gold digger and likes to make wealthy men pay for her bills. However, on the night of her birthday her old date falls asleep drunk and she meets Jean, who pretends to be a millionaire and not a hotel clerk and woos Irene using his bartender skills and sneaking them into eh imperial suite. They meet again a year later when Irene goes to celebrate her engagement to a rich man, and then begin to have a quirky romance together, where eventually Jean runs out of money and becomes a gold digger himself. They both continue their shameless relationships of living off the rich and famous, but then they keep seeing each other. Eventually, in the middle of one of their schemes, Irene lets go of her attachment to being rich and decides she is really in love with Jean and they run off to Italy together on a vespa with only 1 euro coin.

I think that the film priceless is really stupid. It's just too repetitive and fairy tale/romantic comedy. I really like Audrey Tautou, but this is just a bit over the top. I have a lot of friends who like and I have seen a lot of good reviews, but I just found it to be a little too silly. I think Audrey Tautou won our hearts with Amelie and so we've just decided to keep giving them to her, but though she's talented I find her to be a rather one-dimensional actress. Born in France, Audrey has been in quite a few films, besides Amelie she was also very good in Coco Chanel. Though she had success in the Da Vinci code, she intends to keep living and working in France. She is deeply dedicated to monkeys and at the end of shooting Amelie she traveled to Indonesia to work at a monkey sanctuary. Her favorite authors are victor hugo, oscar wilde and her favorite poets are Charles Baudelaire and Tristan Tzara. Her father was a dental surgeon and her mother a school teacher. Her filmography is quite strong however, and even though I haven't seen many of them as they are mostly released in France or for French TV she h as produced a film a year or sometimes more since 1996 until today. The most recent was the Full Treatment where she played Emilie Dandrieux in 2010 and she's currently filming the French film Des Vents Contraires and is in pre-production for Le Délicatesse.
