I am not even sure. I guess they are supposed to be raising regular fares by an average of another ten dollars, but I actually saw some seriously discounted rates lately so I guess I just don't get it. I guess US Airways began the price raise, and then Continental Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta Airlines all followed suit because they could. They are all competitors, but once one of them raises the price they can all decide to go in on it together so that no one has an advantage or disadvantage and they are all making the extra money. American Airlines, Continental Airlines, and United Airlines all tried to do the ten dollar increase a month ago, but sales dropped so fast that they realized they couldn't do it until someone else did it too. They probably had a secret meeting about it or something! Who knows. If you are like me and have only noticed this stuff because you were about to buy a ticket (that goes up in price every time you check) you should subscribe to airfarewatchdog.com or one of the other websites that monitors the air fares as well as the fairness of the pricing.

Well, I guess that you could be talking about several things. First of all, Continental Airlines recently merged with United Airlines. They were essentially the last airlines to stop serving airplane snacks on flights, and it happened due to their merger with United Airlines. The thing is, Continental was probably one of the biggest and most successful airlines out there, and together with United, they are pretty much the hugest and most unstoppable airlines. They claim to save over two million dollars each year that they stop serving miniature pretzels on the flights, which sounds like a lot, until you stop to think that they airlines are making dozens of billions (with a "b") dollars every year! No mini pretzels- seriously? The strange thing is that they also are increasing their ticket costs by an average of ten dollars or more. If you are taking a Continental flight for two hours, you won't even have the option to buy a snack! And if your flight is at least two and a half hours long, you will have the option to pay something like eight bucks for their special snack pack, which honestly is ridiculous. My advice is to bring your own food and don't worry about the crumbs, either.
